Effect of modulated microwave radiation on human EEG asymmetry

This study is aimed to investigation of the effect of modulated 450 MHz microwave radiation on the EEG inter-hemispheric asymmetry. Ten cycles of the microwave exposure (1 min off and 1 min on) at fixed modulation frequency were applied on two groups of healthy volunteers. The first group of 13 subjects was exposed to microwave radiation modulated at 14 Hz and the second group of 15 subjects at 40 Hz frequency. The peak specific absorption rate (SAR) average over 1 g was 0.303 W/kg. Differences in SAR between hemispheres were up to 20 dB. Rod antenna was located from the left side of the head. Differences of relative changes in EEG energy between symmetric channels FP1–FP2, T3–T4, P3–P4 and O1–O2 in exposed and sham conditions were analysed. The results showed increase in EEG energy from the left side caused by microwave exposure. Statistical analysis done for the whole group of subjects didn’t reveal significant differences in inter-hemispheres asymmetry between exposed and sham conditions. However, statistical analysis performed for individual subjects detected significant differences in asymmetry caused by exposure for 15–35% of individuals.     

LUMP SUM TAX LOSS REIMBURSEMENT UNDER THE THAMES RIVER FLOOD CONTROL COMPACT1

ABSTRACT: Under the terms of the Thames River Valley Flood Control Compact, Connecticut has been paying Massachusetts 40 percent of the annual property tax losses suffered by seven Massachusetts towns where four flood control structures were located. The permissable alternative of a single lump sum payment was investigated in the study summarized here. The lump sum payment should be the proportion of total benefits (flood control and recreation) from the four structures which Connecticut receives, multiplied by the present value of projected tax losses in the seven tom Flood control benefits and their distribution between the two states were fixed in the Compact, but a survey was necessary to determine recreational benefits and their distribution. Regression analysis of 1957 to 1978 tax loss data provided equations used to project future tax losses. Resent values of projected tax low were calculated using discount rates ranging from 6 to 12 percent. A plausible range of lump sum reinbursements as of 1979 was identified.     

Copepod egg production in the Skagerrak during SKAGEX,May–June 1990

Egg production ofAcartia clausi andCentropages hamatus was measured along 6 transects in the Skagerrak every third day from 26 May to 20 June 1990. Egg production was highest in the shallow waters north of Denmark, with occasional peaks in frontal regions along the Swedish and the Danish west coasts. Linear regression analysis showed that the egg production was significantly (p<0.05) related to chlorophylla measured either as average surface concentration or integrated over the whole water column. When analysing each transect or each time period separately, the surface chlorophyll generally was a better predictor of egg production than the depth-integrated chlorophyll. Regressions improved when analysing the whole area for a short period of time rather than analysing a single transect for a month. The data suggest that the Skagerrak planktonic system functions more similarly over the whole area in a short period of time than over a month in a restricted area. Mixingwithin the system in frontal regions or in connection with eddies is more important for the secondary production thantransport to it by the Baltic Current or the Jutland Current.SKAGEX Contribution No. 4
